MA Programme: ENGLISH LITERATURE SPECIAL PROGRAMME
(Specializace Anglická literatura)

Director: Prof.PhDr. Martin Procházka, CSc.

This programme suggests new approaches to literature formed by recent trends in literary scholarship. It combines a sense of literary history with the values and ideas of the present. The range of subjects covered in the programme reflects the broad research interests of the lecturers. There are seminars devoted to virtually the entire scope of English literature. Compulsory basic courses, focusing on the literature of the Restoration, Romanticism and Victorian literature, are supplemented by elective and extension courses on English medieval literature, Restoration and the 18th century literature, Modernism and post-World War II developments in poetry and drama. Unique features of this programme are courses allowing students to read Old and Middle English texts in the original language.

The programme consists of 4 basic and 4 elective courses for single-subject students. In addition, 6 courses can be taken from other special programmes. Two-subject students have to take 2 basic and 3 elective courses plus 1 course from another special programme. Basic courses are offered each academic year (either in the winter or summer semester). The offer of elective and extension courses varies each academic year.
For further information please consult the detailed description of the MA programme requirements.
