Clare Wallace

Clare Wallace is a graduate of Trinity College Dublin (B.A.), University College Dublin (M.A.) and Charles University (PhD). At the Department of Anglophone Literatures and Cultures she teaches in several areas ranging across Irish Studies, Post-war and contemporary British drama and theatre, twentieth-century American drama and theatre. Her essays and articles appeared in Irish Studies Review, Irish Theatre Magazine, Irish University Review, Canadian Journal of Irish Studies, Litteraria Pragensia, Dialog, Modern Drama and Contemporary Theatre Review.

From 1998 to 2009 she was a member of the steering committee of the European Federation of Associations and Centres of Irish Studies (EFACIS); from 2006 to 2009 she was a Representative for Europe in the International Association for the Study of Irish Literatures (IASIL). Since 2013 she has served as Vice President of the Society for the Study of Contemporary Drama in English (CDE).

She is a member of the Editorial Board of JCDE (Journal of Contemporary Drama in English) and the Advisory Board of International Journal of Scottish Theatre and Screen.

She has contributed chapters to Contemporary Irish Theatre and Performance Studies Reader (2016), The Oxford Handbook of Modern Irish Theatre (2016), Irish Theatre in Transition (2015), British Theatre Companies 1995-2014 (2015), Beyond Realism: Experimental and Unconventional Drama since the Revival (2015), Ethical Speculations in Contemporary British Theatre (2014), The Methuen Drama Guide to Contemporary British Playwrights (2011), The Methuen Drama Guide to Contemporary Irish Playwrights (2010), Sarah Kane in Context (2010).

Currently her research is revolving around questions of theatre, performance, performativity, ethics and affect. With Dr Clara Escoda (University of Barcelona) she is preparing an edited collection on Contemporary British Theatre and Crisis.

She is a participant supervisor for MOVES – Migration and Modernity: Historical and Cultural Challenges, European Joint Doctorate.

She is a member of the research project: “British Theatre in the Twenty-First Century: Crisis, Affect, Community.” FFI2016-75443-P Funded by the Spanish Ministry of Economy and Competitiveness (MINECO).

She is a Key Researcher in the European Regional Development Fund-Project "Creativity and Adaptability as Conditions of the Success of Europe in an Interrelated World” (No. CZ.02.1.01/0.0/0.0/16_019/0000734).

I welcome thesis proposals in the following areas: BA and MA: Modern and contemporary theatre and drama, the short story, Irish literature and studies, Irish film, feminism and literature/theatre/culture. PhD: Contemporary theatre and drama (Irish, British, American), modern and contemporary Irish literature in English.

Please keep in mind that we must allow time for consultation, revision and for the opponent to read your work. If I am supervising your BA or MA Thesis the following deadlines apply:

For the summer exam period (June)

•          Table of contents + Introductory chapter by 1st February at the latest (by email, word file)
•          Other chapters should be submitted between February and 1st May (by email, word file)
•          Final complete version be submitted by early May. (Bound copy and electronic copy) Please be sure to consult the departmental website for details of exactly what should be submitted and the deadline.

For the autumn exam period (September)

•          Table of contents + Introductory chapter by 15th March at the latest (by email, word file)
•          Other chapters should be submitted between March and 15th June (by email, word file)
•          Final complete version be submitted by 30th June. (Bound copy and electronic copy) Please be sure to consult the departmental website for details of exactly what should be submitted and the deadline.
•          Please note: I do not read any student work in July and August.

 For the winter exam period (January/February)

•          Table of contents + Introductory chapter by 30th October at the latest (by email, word file)
•          Other chapters should be submitted between October and 15th December (by email, word file)
