Poetry Reading by Biddy Jenkinson

A reading by celebrated Irish-language poet Biddy Jenkinson, with translations by Daniela Theinová and Martin Světlík and music by Conamara Chaos. The event took place at Café Kampus in Prague on 20 November 2018 as part of the EFACIS Irish Itinerary, and was supported by the Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade, Ireland, and Culture Ireland. An Evening of Irish Literature and Music

An Evening of Irish Literature and Music at the Strahov Monastery in Prague, featuring acclaimed poet Nuala Ní Dhomhnaill and writer, translator and scholar Alan Titley (15 September 2017). Their work was read also in Czech translation by Daniela Theinová, Radvan Markus and Martin Světlík. The reading was accompanied by the music of Kateřina García and Síle Denvir, who performed Irish, Czech and Catalan songs. The event was part of the international conference “Ar an Imeall i Lár an Domhain? An tairseachúlacht i litríocht agus i gcultúr na Gaeilge agus na hEorpa”, and was supported by the Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade, Ireland, and Culture Ireland via the EFACIS Irish Itinerary. Book launch and a reading by Kevin Barry

A book launch and a reading by award-winning novelist Kevin Barry, Café Liberál, Prague, 22 November 2016. Kevin’s reading from from City of Bohane was accompanied by extracts from the Czech version by acclaimed translator Alena Dvořáková and a discussion of the difficulties and delights that the novel presents for a translator. The event was part of the EFACIS Irish Itinerary 2016, and was co-hosted by the Centre for Irish Studies of Charles University and Argo Publishers.

IMRAM Festival Dublin

A bilingual gala night of Czech and Irish literature that took place in Dublin on 10 October 2016 as part of the IMRAM festival. Organized by Radvan Markus, Daniela Theinová, Pádraig Ó Liathán and Éamon Ó Ciosáin, it featured a dramatic reading of Breandán Ó hEithir´s radio version of The Good Soldier Švejk, extracts from the Czech translation of Máirtín Ó Cadhain´s Cré na Cille, contemporary poetry in both languages, songs by Kateřina Garcia and many more. Seamus Heaney Commemoration

H.E. Alison Kelly, Ambassador of Ireland to the Czech Republic, hosted a bilingual reading of Seamus Heaney’s work in tribute to the poet on 29 April 2014. The event was introduced by Ondřej Pilný and Justin Quinn of the Centre for Irish Studies, Charles University, and a selection of Heaney’s recent work was translated for the occasion by Daniel Soukup, also of Charles University.

Ireland and the Czech Lands: Contacts and Comparisons in History and Culture, eds. Gerald Power and Ondřej Pilný, was launched in the Krásný ztráty café in Prague on 13 December 2013 by H.E. Alison Kelly, Ambassador of Ireland to the Czech Republic, and prof. Michal Klíma, rector of Metropolitan University in Prague.
